Road Trip Quilt Along - Adding Sashing and Cornerstones

We made it through 56 days of travel and quilt blocks!  If you have a pile of quilt blocks, now is the time to add your sashing and cornerstones - if you haven't downloaded the directions for them yet, you can get them here:

Sashing and Cornerstones directions

I was under the weather this week, so I didn't get as far as I wanted to in finishing my projects, but since I added the sashing and cornerstones to my 3 inch blocks as I made them, all I had to do was sew borders on, and I managed that yesterday!

The outer border is Bridgewater, by Island Batik. It was chosen to coordinate with the Naturescape stack in my July 2022 Ambassador Box that I used for this quilt.  I am very pleased with the results.  Now I just need to choose a backing and get it quilted!

It felt so good to be back in my sewing room that I decided to get my sashing started for the 6 inch blocks.  I had in mind that a nice sky blue would be pretty for sashing on this one.  I pulled out several blues, and decided that this one would be perfect.  When I looked at the label I was happily surprised that this color is called sky!  If I'd have looked at the beginning I wouldn't have had such a hard time deciding!  For this one I am using the more traditional method of adding the strips.  I sewed the first row of blocks together with strip between them.

Then I sewed strips of sashing and cornerstones to sew to the top and bottom of the strips.  I like it so far!

I was getting a little tired by this point, but wanted to do a couple more rows.  This being sick business is no fun at all!  I picked up a bug at Ladies Retreat last weekend, but am definitely on the mend now.  But it has left me frustrated at not being able to do much sewing!

Just one more row and I was going to call it quits for the day.  Unfortunately, or fortunately as it turns out, I noticed that I had sewn on row three upside down!  I got it turned around, then added the fourth row.  I figured that the halfway point was a good time to quilt for the day.

Sometimes it's better not to push your luck and keep going when you are tired!  Tomorrow will be a better day and I'll be able to finish this up!  Then I'll have to get serious about choosing the sashing for the nine inch blocks!  Maybe I'll go with a darker sashing for that one, since both of these have a lighter color.  We'll see what looks good to me when the time comes!

Take your time (I keep saying that, but being in a rush just slows you done, don't you know!) putting your blocks together - I will show my progress as I get mine done.  Have a wonderful Sunday!

Oh, and congratulations to Susan for winning the Park Avenue Mug Rug!  I emailed for your address, so make sure to get back to me!
