Road Trip Quilt Along, Day 3 - Utah!

This day of traveling wasn't going to be a sightseeing day, just a driving day from one point to another.  There isn't a lot of distinctive scenery between Fernley, Nevada and Provo, so we were just set to take a long drive and listen to the songs playing on the radio!

Lots of long, straight stretches on this roud!

We started with a full tank of gas, as always.  We got pretty good mileage in our truck, and it has a good range so we hardly had a day where we had to stop and fuel up twice.  Gas prices weren't great, but we had planned for that!

As you can see, not a lot of traffic on these roads!

We always think this looks like the Paramount mountain!

A wildlife crossing!  What a great idea!  There's a fence along the side of the highway, which leads tot his overpass.  It's fairly wide, and I would imagine that it helps with accidents involving the deer, etc.

I'm always looking for this odd sculpture along the roadway as you travel through the Utah Salt Flats!  You can read more about it here:  Metaphor, the Tree of Utah.  I think it was pretty new the first time we drove past it!

Looks like a huge pile of salt!  The sun was getting low at this point and we were ready to make the right turn to head south to Provo.  The sun was getting low as we neared our destination.  The hotel in Provo was one of the largest we stayed in, and we were several floors up.  Our large amount of luggage was a bit of a trial to lug in and out of the rooms, not to mention the small cooler.  Most of the time we made use of a luggage cart, but I'm sure people were wondering at the amount of things we carried in and out of the rooms we stayed in!  What can you say, when you are away from home for two months, there are a lot of things you want to have with you!

Love a sighting of the moon during the day!  Time for dinner and a good night's rest, we were ready for more sight-seeing and we had a big day, with a shorter drive planned for tomorrow!

Utah is the Beehive state, they even have beehives on their road signs, too bad I didn't' get a picture!  Anyway, today's block is super simple, at least the piecing part!  The honeybee block is so cute with the applique on it, but I am leaving that off of my version, and if you want to do that as well, you are welcome to!  I have included templates for the 6 and 9 inch versions if you want to use them, but feel free to be happy making a simple pieced block!

Don't worry if you are just seeing these posts, you can join this quilt along at any point, just sign up using the link on my sidebar to have the steps emailed to you!  Have a wonderful day!
