One Block short of a Finish!

Well, wouldn't you know it, when I started laying out my Socialites 2 blocks, I made a disturbing discover!  I had missed making a block!  It took me a while to go through all the patterns and figure out which one, but I skipped number 23.

Oh well, it's just one more block to make, after all.  It didn't take me too long to get that done, and then choose four more fabrics for the big friendship stars in the corners.  I was able to get it almost ready for sewing together before taking a break.

For the center I chose to make a Crown of Thorns block - one of my favorites!  Now it's time to put all this together into a top.

It's not pressed yet, but it's a top!  Then this morning I decide to get the back pieced together.  It's a fun challenge to piece together leftover fabric to make a backing.  My goal is to get the best use out of the fabric with the least amount of seams.  For this one I had a large piece left of the multicolored print I used in the center star.  I had to find some fabrics that had a good amount from the width of the fabric, then used 12 inch pieces along the sides to bring it up to the size I wanted.  I think it will be fun on the back!

I really love that I was able to use some nice pieces of the fun fabrics in this collection!  (Sunset Plains by Island Batik!)  I think I might be doing some quilting in the next week while I'm still on a roll and excited about working on this!  I haven't picked out a binding yet, but I'll worry about that when I get to it!

We also enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby this afternoon.  It was extra fun because we had the memory of our visit there last year.  The museum there is well worth it if you are ever nearby!

Did you enjoy week 1 of the Tool Craze Blog Hop?  I did!  Thanks for all the nice comments on my quilts, I really appreciate them all!  If you missed it you can find it here.  My giveaway will be active until the 20th, so if you haven't entered yet, make sure you go do so!  Island batik has begun the second giveaway for the hop, you can enter to win one of these fabric bundles:

Good luck!
