Time for the final block of our June Mini Madness 2021 series! For this block we'll be making a small pinwheel in the center of a star - not too tricky, but definitely some smaller piecing! I know you are up to it if you made it this far!
Cutting instructions:For 6 inch
block cut one 2 ¾ inch square of light and background (cut in half diagonally
both ways), and two 2 3/8 squares background (cut in half diagonally). Cut four 2 x 3 ½ rectangles and four 2
squares of white. Cut eight 2 squares of
medium.
Sew the light and background quarter square triangles together, background on the bottom and sew from the corner to the point. Press toward the light triangle.
Sew these to the larger background triangles and press toward the background. Trim the dog ears. Your finished unit should be 2 1/2 inches for the four inch block and 3 1/2 inches for the 6 inch block.
Sew four flying geese units using the background rectangles and medium squares (I used dark on this because I wanted to include this fabric one more time in my quilt).
Lay out to make a star with the background squares. Sew together to complete your block!
Beautiful! Congratulations on finishing this journey with me!
Doing this quilt along has been a good help for me as this has been a difficult month - I lost a dear friend to Covid on the first, and it's been sad, and busy as we help her husband get through the process of grieving and cleaning out and selling the home they had recently moved from. This project has given me a good focus for the month, and has definitely given me a goal for each day. I do apologize for the occasional error, and hope you understand that my mind hasn't always been fully devoted to the details. Thanks so much for your patience and kindness through it all!
On July 4 I will have a final post for this series with some ideas for putting your blocks together into a finished project - I think you will like them!
So very sorry for the loss of your friend. What a blessing it is for you to be there for her spouse, but do remember to allow yourself to grieve as well. Keeping busy and focused is a way to get through, but your loss needs time too. God bless.
