Welcome to day 28 of June Mini Madness! Only three more blocks to go! This one features flying geese and triangles, it's a nice asymmetrical block called Blockade.
Cutting instructions:
For 4 inch
block cut four 1 ½ x 2 ½ inch rectangles of dark, six 1 ½ squares of white and two
of light. Cut four 1 7/8 squares of
dark, two of light and two of background (cut in half diagonally).
For 6 inch
block cut four 2 x 3 ½ inch rectangles of dark, six 2 squares of white and two
of light. Cut four 2 3/8 squares of
dark, two of light and two of background (cut in half diagonally).
Start out by sewing the half square triangles - four dark/backgound, four light/background.
Next make the flying geese units. First sew all the white squares on to the dark rectangles as seen below.
Then add the light squares on the other side of two units, and background squares on the other two. Sew the triangle units into pairs, making sure you have turned the right direction.
Make two sets of matching units.
Arange as shown and sew the quarters together.
Not as complicated as it looks, right?
