June Mini Madness 2021 Block 24

Todays block may be a bit of a challenge, but I an sure you are all up to it!  This is a basket block, another favorite of mine.

Cutting Instructions:

For 4 inch block cut one 1 7/8 inch square each of light and medium, two of dark and four each of background (cut in half diagonally) Cut one 2 7/8 squares each of light and dark (cut in half diagonally and discard one of each).  Cut two 1 ½ x 2 ½ rectangles from background.

For 6 inch block cut one 2 3/8 inch square each of light and medium, two of dark and four each of background (cut in half diagonally) Cut one 3 7/8 squares each of light and dark (cut in half diagonally and discard one of each).  Cut two 2 x 3 ½ rectangles from background.

Using two each of the small triangles in light, medium and dark, sew six half square triangles with background triangles.

Use one of the dark half square triangle squares and add a background triangle to each side to make a bird in the air unit. Add large dark triangle to complete unit.  Lay out remaining triangles around this unit, then place rectangles, small dark triangles and large background triangle.

Sew small dark triangles to bottom of rectangles, and sew light and medium triangles in pairs.

Sew dark half square triangle unit to one pair of triangles, and sew the other pair to bird in the air unit.  Sew these together to complete the top of basket.

Now sew a rectangle/triangle unit to each side of the top of basket.

Almost done!

Last, the background triangle gets sewn to to the bottom:

So pretty!  Hope you have fun making your basket.  Take your time and it will turn out well!  See you tomorrow with block 25!
