Time for Winners!

It's always fun to get to this part of a giveaway!  When I woke up this morning I had rafflecopter randomly draw my winners - Donna won the fabric giveaway and Lee won the patterns.  Congrats, Ladies!  Check your e-mail for more information!

This is one of my projects from yesterday.  I believe it is going to be a raffle quilt for a local group.  It's pretty awesome, but it isn't your typical quilt!  The motorcycles are all that rubbery t-shirt transfer fabric, and the black is pleather (imitation leather).  It has a layer of poly batting and is backed with black fleece.  Quite an interesting combination to work with!
You can see the gorgeous texture in the pleather.  That's the way it came, not from quilting!  The only quilting I did was to outline each of the motorcycle squares.  With all the thickness of the fabrics there was a small amount of puckering on the back, but it's not that bad.  The backing was turned to the front for the binding.  A bit of a challenge, but it came out pretty well!

The binding clips were perfect for the job!  You can really see the texture in the pleather with this shot - so pretty!

I also started working on the Vintage Embroidery quilt.  I got it basted - this is my first quilt using two layers of batting.  The top batting is Dream wool and the bottom layer is pellon cotton.
I got the stitch in the ditch done to stabilize it and have started to quilt the blocks!  It's going to be stunning, I think!

I was so nervous to stitch on the blocks, but I love the results!  It takes about 5 minutes to do a block and there are 42 in the quilt, so I have a few hours of quilting ahead of me.  Each block is 4 1/2 inches plus 1 inch borders framing it.

Today is grocery shopping day, so I suppose I'd better get off the computer and get my day going.  Congrats to Donna and Lee!  Thanks to everyone for your comments and participation - it was really fun hearing about your favorite blocks.  It made me want to sew them all up!

Happy Easter, plus Winners!

Sorry for being an absentee blogger this week.  I have been pushing hard to get projects for my customers done and out the door before my husband and I leave on a trip.  I'll show you some of them, but first I have a couple pieces of business to take care of!

First of all, the winner of my Quilt Quazy Queens blog hop prize is:

Billie S!

Billie is actually a real life friend of mine that I met in the local quilt guild years ago!  I am tickled pink that she was chosen to be the winner and have passed her information on to Marian, our Quazy Hop hostess, so I am sure she will be receiving her Timeless Treasure Fat Quarter Bundle soon.

There are still a few more prizes to grab - here are the last of the blogs to check out:

This week we also wrapped up the Creative New Quilts and Projects blog hop!  The winner of the book I gave away is:  Doris McCarty!  Congratulations, Doris - I have passed your information on to our hop sponsors, so you should be hearing from them soon as well.  This was a fun hop, it was really neat seeing what all the ambassadors did with the quilts in Wendy's book plus Island Batik fabric!  If you didn't see the posts, the list is on the Island Batik Blog - definitely worth checking out!

What's New in the Quilting Studio?

Mostly customer quilts this week!  I was putting the finishing touches on two quilts for a loyal customer in California.  Both of these were made with purchased kits.  She is a big cat fan, so I couldn't resist tempting her with this quilt.  I don't do that often, but I knew she would love it!

It's called Cat's Fancy but the kit is now sold out.  It was fun and pretty simple to make.  I chose this backing and love the way the quilting shows up on it:

I also made this table topper.  I posted a little about it earlier, but here is the finished quilt, along with all 20 in and out corners with binding sewn on - whew!

I finished piecing this top for a local friend who passed it on to me after finding it a bit difficult to deal with:
Lots and lots of y-seams in this one, but in the end it came out beautifully!

I also quilted a fish quilt, am in the process of making a t-shirt quilt and quilting another quilt.  I will get pictures of those next week before I send them off to their homes.  Plus I need to finish up my Mini for Island Batik's Mini Madness....

My little quilt still needs it's borders and to be quilted.  One of the great things about minis is they don't take much time, so I should be able to get to that this weekend.

After all that, I definitely deserve a vacation!   I'm planning out some fun blog posts for next month.  I have lots of quilts that I have never blogged about, so will do something of a virtual quilt show and see if I can catch up on some of those quilts that have never made it to the spotlight!

Thanks to my new followers for joining in!  I hope you enjoy following along on my quilting adventures.

I was excited to see who the winners of my two blog hop giveaways were and I'll bet you are, too!

Winner number one of the Caribbean Splash day giveaway which includes 4 fat quarters and scraps from my Sea Stars quilt of Sea Salt Sandy:

Hanke!

She left the following comment on my blog: "I am working on the top of the New Hexagon Millifiore quilt, pattern made by Katja Marek. Thanks for the chance! Love your fish!"

Winner number two of the Sea Stars mini Quilt is:

Vicki H!

Vicki said this:  "I love the mini quilt. Today I will be working on a disappearing 4 patch quilt."

Thanks to all for entering!  I loved reading all of your comments and hearing about your projects.  If you are one of the winners, check your e-mail and send me your address so I can get your prize to you this week.

All of the Island Batik Ambassadors had a great time on this blog hop and there were some wonderful quilts shared.  Stay tuned for more great projects from Island Batik fabric - all the ambassadors are sew excited about Mini Madnesss!  I have a project picked out and can't wait to share it with you - this time you'll get to see it all the way through since we are having fun with mini quilts for the whole month.  I think I might even make another Sea Stars quilt to have on my own wall!

Happy Quilting and Congratulations once more to Hanke and Vicki!

Sea of Quilts 2008

Well, it's all over, the show is done, packed away and everyone has gone home. It was fun, exhausting, and exhilarating all at once! There were some fabulous quilts there, it's amazing to see the scope of machine quilting people are doing on their own. Our Best of Show was a lovely applique quilt that was machine quilted by the quilter on a Gammil longarm machine.

This is a close up of the wonderful quilting, close stippling and a feather wreath that looks like trapunto. This is one of my favorites - Christmas pickle! It's a beautiful quilt all done in batiks. It was professionally quilted, but the piecing is what stood out on this quilt.
Last, but not least, this is the cute pincushion that I am teaching as a free class at the quilt shop on Oct. 11. I made several samples and this one will be given as a door prize at the Quiltsy Trunk Show tomorrow night. Look for Quiltsy Trunk Show and click on the link to take you into the room. Not sure if you have to be a registered buyer on Etsy, so it would probably be a good idea to join first. You can find the shops that are participating by searching for sewso under tags and titles. Good luck, and hopefully we'll see you there tomorrow afternoon/evening!
