June Mini Madness 2021 - Day 3

How are the blocks going so far?  Hope you are having fun!

Today's block is rail fence.  You can strip piece this by cutting long strips, sewing them together and
sub-cutting squares, or you can cut smaller strips and sew them together.

For the 4 inch block you will need a 1 inch by 10 1/2 inch strip each of background, light, medium, and dark fabrics for strip piecing or four 1 x 2 1/2 strips of each fabric if you want to piece the individual blocks.

For the 6 inch block, cut 1 1/4 x 15 inch strips of each fabric for strip piecing or four 1 1/4 x 3 1/2 inch strips of each to piece the sections individually.

Either sew one long strip set or four short ones, sewing background to dark to medium to light.  Press seams toward the side of the strip that the light fabric on the end.  If you are working with a long strip set, sub cut four squares 2 1/2 (3 1/2 for six inch block).

Lay them out as shown and sew together!  This block is a good test to see if your seam allowances are accurate!  If they don't come out square, you need to make an adjustment.  This post has some good tips for accurate cutting and sewing.

Looking good in both sizes!
