June Mini Madness 2021 - Block 9

Today's block is going to stretch you a bit, this is the one block in the whole set that features measurements using 16th of an inch.  Don't panic!  A sixteenth of an inch sounds small and it is, but it's just those measurements between the eight of an inch mark on your ruler.  Here is a post I wrote earlier about this:  Help in Measuring Sixteenth of an Inch for Quilt Pieces.  Now, let's get on to today's block - Coxey's Camp.

Cutting:

For 3 inch block, cut two 1 3/16 inch squares of dark and light fabric, two 1 7/8 inch squares of background (cut in half diagonally) four 1 ½ inch squares of medium, and four 1 x 2 ½ inch strips of dark and background.

3/16 is the measurement between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch.

For 6 inch block, cut two 1 9/16 inch squares of dark and light fabric, two 2 3/8 inch squares of background (cut in half diagonally), four 2 inch squares of medium, and four 1 1/4 x 3 ½ strips of dark and background.

9/16 is the measurement between 1/2 and 5/8 of an inch.

Take the light and dark squares and sew them into a four patch unit.

Next, add the white triangles to the edges of the four patch unit.  Line up the center of the long side of the triangle with the center of the four patch.

Add triangles to opposite sides.

Press out and add remaining two triangles.  Press to outside, and trim dog ears.  Your finished four patch in a square will measure 2 1/2 inches (3 1/2 inches for the 6 inch block.)

Next sew the dark and background strips together to make rectangles.  Arrange these with dark fabric toward center and place medium fabric squares at corners.  Sew block together.

Press your seams away from center of block.

Two blocks together - I don't know which is my favorite.

When looking up this block on the internet I found this intriguing half drop layout.  I really like this!

If you'd like to see my video, check out my facebook page, I'll post it there.  Have a wonderful day, tomorrow is block 10 - that means 1/3 of the way finished!!!

Thank you. I'm off to make one, and I'm sure you mean 4" block on the little one.
