I'm excited to start June Mini Madness 2021 and I hope you are, too! Like last year, we are going to start off with some easier blocks and work our way up to the harder blocks. Today's block is from EQ8 and is called Mosaic Number 2.
For the six inch block you will need to cut one 2 x 8 1/2 inch strip of your dark and medium fabric, and two of your background fabric. (I am using the Northern Lights collection that I used for my May Island Batik challenge last year - I just love these colors!)
Start by sewing a background strip to each of the dark and medium strips. Press seam toward darker fabric.
Cut four 1 1/2 inch (2 inch for 6 inch block) strips from each pair.
I like to layer the pieces strips right sides together, like they will be when they are sewn together.
Arrange these so that you have diagonal lines formed with the medium and dark squares. Sew the 4-patch units together to complete your block! Easy, right? Here are my 6 inch and 4 inch blocks:
I'll be back tomorrow with the second block! You can see the video on my facebook page:
If you are looking for a few tips on getting started, see this blog post from last year: So You Want To Make a Mini Quilt. I promise, sewing these small blocks is really easier than it seems! It might feel really awkward at first, but if you keep at it, I think you will fall in love with small piecing, too.

Oh, I think I missed this one. Have subscribed just now, and have to go to my mail to confirm. Looking great.
I should be able to use a 10” layer cake for either size, right?
