OMG - Color Challenge 2019 is a finish!

Whew, I've been sew busy with the June Mini Madness that I've hardly blogged about anything else this month!  I've also been hard at work to finish this lovely quilt as my One Monthly Goal for Elm Street Quilts

This was the top I made last year for Pattern by Jen's monthly Color Challenge 2019!  I finished the top late in December, and placed it on my UFO challenge list for the year because I really wanted to get it completed this year.  And I did!
I had so much fun working on this!  I challenged myself to work on my skills using ruler work, and I learned so much.
Straight lines with rulers are so easy, and I love it for stitching in the ditch!  I'm defintiely going to comfortable with using this in the future.  I have no puckering on the back of the quilt despite the fact that I quilted all the sashing first, then the blocks which is usually a problem.
And those long wriggly lines were fun!
I struggled a bit with ideas for quilting, but I ended up witha good variety of looks in the end.

Oh, the colors in this make my heart sing!  And the checkerboard sashing - what a fun quilt this ended up being!  This quilt also qualifies as a finish for this month's Island Batik Ambassadors Challenge which is a free month.  All the fabrics (even the solid black and white) are from Island Batik.  They are various scraps, and all put to good use, I would say!  I quilted it using Aurifil Thread (50 wt) in a rainbow of colors!  I also used Schetz needles - the size 12 are great for quilting through the batik fabrics!
Stay tuned for tomorrow when I'll show you my main project - the June Mini Madness quilt!

Thanks for sharing this lovely border treatment for your colour quilt. I am working on the 2020 version and it is wonderful to see an option I would not have thought of.
