June Mini Madness: Block 29 Sixteen Patch Star

Just one more block after this one!  Give yourself a big pat on the back if you've made it this far, you are doing great!
This block features the same Flying Geese units we made in yesterdays blocks, along with a sixteen patch center.  We'll be strip piecing this, so it's really not that difficult, and looks amazing!

For 3 inch block cut one 2 ¾ inch square, four 1 ¼ inch squares and one 7/8 x 10 inch strip of background, four 1 5/8 inch squares of blue, and one 7/8 x 10 inch strip of red.

For 6 inch block, cut one 4 ¼ inch square, four 2 inch squares and a 1 ¼ x 12 inch strip of background, four 2 3/8 inch squares of blue and a 1 ¼ x 12 inch strip of red.

Using the red and background strips sew a checkerboard unit. (Trim all seams to 1/8 of an inch after sewing.) Start by sewing the strips together with a 1/4 inch seam.   Then cut in half and sew halves together to make a strip 2 (3 1/2 for 6 inch block) wide.  Cut four 7/8 (1 1/4) inch strips from this.  Sew together, alternating orientation to make checkerboard block for center of star.

Using the large background square and four small blue squares, make 4 flying geese units in the same way as you made the King's Crown block.  Sew together, making sure you have the points facing outward to form a star!

See you back tomorrow for the final block!
