June Mini Madness - Block 6, Checkerboard

Today's block is a Checkerboard.  We'll be strip piecing this one, so much easier than cutting a bunch of little squares and sewing them together.
For this block you will need a 1 1/4 inch by 12 inch strip of your background and your blue fabric (3 inch block) or 2 inches by 18 strips if you are making a 6 inch block.  Remember, those are the finished size of the blocks in the quilt.  They will measure 3 1/2 inches and 6 1/2 inches before you sew them into the quilt.

Sew your strips together, right sides together and edges aligned, then press toward the darker side.  Cut your strip in half.  Then layer these two strips, right sides together and sew theme together on the long edge - white to blue.  Press toward the blue strip again.  Cut four sets of strips from this, then sew them together, alternating the blue and white as the top edge.

You'll finish up with a nice checkerboard block!  (Make sure to watch my facebook video to see how NOT to do this - haha)

Hope you are having as much fun as I am!
