June Mini Madness: Block 21 Ohio Star

Wow, I can hardly believe that three weeks have passed since we started this journey!  This is block 21
- Ohio Star.
For this block we'll be making more quarter square triangle units, this time with three colors.

For a 3 inch block, cut two red squares 2 ¼ inches, one blue square 2 ¼ inches, four white squares  1 ½ and one white 2 ¼ inch square.

For a 6 inch block, cut two red squares 3 ¼ inches, one blue square 3 ¼ inches, four white squares 2 ½ and one white 3 ¼ inch square.

Mark a diagonal line on the back of the blue and white squares.
Layer each of these with a red square and sew a 1/4 inch seam on each side of the line.  Cut through the line and press seams toward the red triangles.  Draw a diagonal line on the back of the red/white squares.  Layer each red/white square with a red/blue square - keep the red sides opposite each other nd make sure the seams are well nested together.  Sew 1/4 inch on each side and cut apart.  Press toward the red/blue side of the square.
The finished units for the 3 inch square will be 1 1/2 inches.  The center will be at the 3/4 inch mark for squaring up - now this is really getting small!

Lay out your pieces with the white triangles to the outside of the block and the blue toward the inside of the block with the white squares in the corners and the center.  Sew your block together and you are finished!

Looking good, and I hope yours is too!

Ready for another drawing?  This week I have fabric from the Moroccan Bazaar collection from Island Batik.  I used these to make a sample of my Reflections pattern, and I love them, so bright and fun!

I have a set of 2 inch strips leftover that I'd love to gift to someone this week.  This week I'm just going to have you post your pictures on facebook and I'll draw names from there.  Seems like everyone was able to do that much easier, so that will work for me!

Keep making those blocks...there will be some more difficult ones this week, but I know you can do it!

  1. This one seems a bit trickier! But I love the Ohio Star block!
