Road Trip Quilt Along Day 42, Sweetwater Texas - Louisiana Block

Today we have the Louisiana Block.  From this point on we'll be caught up as there will be no more days where we drive through multiple states!

Another fairly simple block to make, I think you will enjoy this one!  Before we got to travelling, we stopped and spent a couple of hours visiting some long-time friends from home, We love spending time with Larry and Mary, every time we stay with them it feels like no time has passed at all! It was nice to see them and at least get to spend a few hours catching up.

Time to start driving across Texas!  We were headed toward Artesia, NM but split the drive into two days.

Definitely not so many trees on today's drive!

We saw lots of small cacti!

Not a lot to see, but the roads were very nice.

More clumps of cactus!

And even more cacti!  We are definitely in desert country! Texas is a big state, so we stopped for the night, making it an easy day. Tomorrow we head for New Mexico!

The three inch block.

The six inch version!

And the 9 inch block.  Just two more weeks!

Road Trip Quilt Along Day 41, ICR Museum - Mississippi Quit Block

Another easy block, sew and flip the corners for all sizes!  This is Mississippi!

Today we had a visit planned to the ICR Discovery Center in Dallas.

Ok, back on the crazy highway!  This time I was a little more careful about our route!

It was a hot day in Dallas, so we enjoyed a few minutes by the fountain before entering the Discovery Center.

We very much enjoyed our visit there!

There was so much to see!  We took our time and enjoyed the whole experience.  We loved the Planetarium show, too!

We've been contributors for many years, and were really tickled when the head of visitors relations tracked us down with gift bag and VIP tour!  It's not like we are huge donors, but have given a small amount every month over years.  It really made our visit special to be recognized like that!

Back to the motel for the night.  Time to pack up for the next day's journey, and a morning visit with some good friends that we haven't seen in years!

The three inch block is really cute!

Road Trip Quilt Along Day 40, Dallas/Fort Worth - Alabama Block

Here's a nice and easy block for today!  This is the Alabama block,

Just squares today, isn't' that nice?

We saw these mini oil rigs at a rest stop after leaving Longview! Pretty cool.

As we head toward more populated areas, there were more lanes and traffic.

Entering Dallas, our destination was the museum at Dealey Plaza.

It wasn't too hard to find, our GPS got us there just fine.  The views of the city were just beautiful - it was hard to concentrate on helping navigate when I wanted to admire the view!

We enjoyed our visit to the museum, and the memorial for JFK.  It was very strange to see the actual site, after having watched videos of the shooting so many times.  The whole area seems a lot smaller in person than I had pictured it.  After that we got back onto the highway to get to our hotel in Fort Worth.  Boy, the highways were crazy!  We somehow ended up in an express lane that took us right where we wanted to go, but I had a feeling we'd have to pay for that later!  (Sure enough, we eventually got a toll bill in the mail when we got home!)

We were happy to see a sign for one of our favorite spots to eat - no not the Waffle House!  Wienerschnitzel Chilli Dogs for Dinner!  We were looking forward to a couple of nights of being in one spot, too.  As much as we were enjoying the trip, getting home was starting to sound good.  But there are still many things to see and do before we get there!

Even the three inch block was easy to put together!

The six inch version.

And the nine inch.  Love the fabrics in this one!  All the fabrics I am using are from Island Batik, the 12 inch fabrics are a wide variety of different collections, and I love the way they allwork together!

Road Trip Quilt Along Day 39, Longview Texas - Sunshine Block

Isn't this a great block to represent Florida!  Lots of tiny triangles (especially in the three inch version, but you can do this!

Let's see the sights for today's journey.

Today's drive took us across Louisianna, into Longview Texas.  No sightseeing today, just heading to our destination.

We went through cities, as well as trees.

We crossed the Mississippi River, now we are back in the west!

We saw corn fields.

And log trucks! (A very familiar sight where we live, but the first one we saw outside of Oregon!)  Sorry about the finger in the way!

 Crossed more rivers!

And saw more trees!  Tomorrow we head for Dallas/Fort Worth to spend a couple days, do some sight-seeing as well as visit with friends.

My three inch Sunshine block.

And I love the nine inch version!  Don't worry this one really isn't as hard as it looks!

Road Trip Quilt Along Day 38, Florida to Louisiana - Georgia Block

Day 38, time to leave Florida and start heading west!  Today's block is almost catching us up to where we are, but we'll add three more states to the list today!  This block is Georgia:

Just four triangles in this block!

We were off and ready for another day of traveling - today we'd hit three new states!

Lots of nice highway, and flat!

We hit another brief storm!  Boy, the water just dumps down like crazy, but it only lasts about 5 minutes.

Then the skies turn blue again!

Lots of green in this part of the country!

We crossed the border into Alabama - here is Mobile.

We weren't in Alabama long, it was just a short time unit we crossed the border into Mississippi!

Mississippi didn't look a whole lot different!

Lots of water here and there!

Biloxi was one town we passed through.

And shortly we arrived in Louisiana!  We stayed the night in Slidell.  Tomorrow we would be in Texas!

My three inch block.  Looks a little wonky, but I think it will be ok

Six inch block.  Much better!

And the none inch version.  Since this block is based on a grid of 5 units, I had to add the border to be able to use it in these sizes.  I really wanted to use it, so it was worth it, I think!
