Row 8 of the Hometown Nostalgia Row Quilt

Another crazy month has gone by - we may be on vacation, but I did get this month's block prepared to post on schedule!  This is Star Shadow - such a pretty block, and not as hard as it might look!

For this block you will need  to cut from your background: four 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 rectangles and four 1 7/8 squares cut in half diagonally. From your dark fabric, cut four 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch rectangles, eight 1 1/2 inch squares and two 2 7/8 inch squares (cut in half diagonally) From your medium fabric cut four 1 1/2 inch squares and from your light fabric cut one 2 1/2 inch square and eight 1 1/2 inch squares.

Start by sewing a background triangle to one side of the medium squares.  Press seam toward triangle.

Then add the remaining triangles to make a larger pieced triangle. Press seam toward triangle.

Trim dog ears and sew the dark triangle to make a pieced square - the Cat's Cradle unit!  This should measure 2 1/2 inches.  (My Missouri Star Everyday scissors are so handy for this step!)

Press seams toward the dark triangles. These will be the corners of the block.

The next step is sewing flying geese with the sew and flip technique.  Start by sewing the dark squares to the background rectangles.  Sew one side, then trim and press triangles toward the outside.

Sew the remaining squares, then trim and press to complete the first set.

Then sew the light squares to the dark rectangles in the same manner.

Sew together in pairs with the dark sides touching to make the chevron units.

Now you can arrange all the units with the 2 1/2 light square in the center and complete your block!

Repeat 9 times to finish your row!  Click the link below to download the printable pattern.  Enjoy!
