Row 7 of the Hometown Nostalgia Row Quilt

I'm glad that this row is a simple one!  Shoo Fly blocks are a very simple block to make.  For this block you'll only need a background fabric and your dark fabric.

If you are making this row with the same fabrics, you will need about 1/4 yard of your dark fabric and 3/8 of background.  For my row, I am using fabrics in sky blue/turquoise.  I think they will be perfect to represent summer!

For each block you will need four 2 1/2 inch squares and two 2 7/8 inch squares of your background fabric, and one 2 1/2 square and 2 2 7/8 inch squares of your dark fabric.

Draw a diagonal line on the back of one set of 2 7/8 inch squares.  I chose the dark fabric for this.  Layer right sides together with your light fabric.

Sew a line 1/4 of an inch on each side of the line.

Cut on drawn line, and press seams toward the dark fabric.  Clip the dog ears, and make sure to measure your half square triangle units, they should be 2 1/2 inches square.

Assemble blocks, pressing seams away from the half square triangle units. Press block well and you are finished!

Now to get the remaining blocks from last month done and finish this row!  I might be a bit behind, but am determined to catch up and this is a good block to help accomplish that - if you are behind too, I challenge you to get yourself caught up!  If I can do it, you can do it, too!
