This month has flown by, and I am happy to say that I've completed my Island Batik Ambassador challenge and am ready to show it to you now! Our challenge this month was an open one, we were given free choice to do what we wanted, and I had a really hard time deciding what to make! Given the amount of time I actually had free to work on the project, I decided that a smaller project was the way to go.
I decided that I'd make a table runner to celebrate Winter! Here on the Oregon Coast we don't often have snow, but it's one of my favorite memories of growing up in Colorado, so I pulled out all the winter fabric's I have received from Island Batik, and got to work making some star blocks for my runner.
Along with my blocks, I cut 6 1/2 inch squares. I had enough different fabrics to not have to use any repeats!
I used a gray Aurifil thread for the piecing and a size 14 Microtex needle from Schmetz for the piecing. I loved my Oliso iron when pressing the seams! I had a perfect size strip of Thermore batting from Hobbs to use for the batting. The backing is a pretty moon and star print from my Island Batik stash. I also pulled the binding from my stash!
I used my favorite swirly quilting to finish it off! My runner measures 18 x 42, which is a nice size for my table when I take the leaf out. I'll enjoy using this for the month of January!
Monochromatic quilts are really fun to make, especially if you want to make a scrappy quilt! I hope to make some different table runners this year to trade out - it helps me to keep my table free of clutter if I have something pretty on it!
Oops, this picture was taken upside down! And it shows the fabrics so nicely, too!
Love your runner Pamela! Blue is my favorite color! Will miss your ambassador posts though.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color is yellow. Yellow goes great with the green island batiks.
ReplyDeleteI seem to lean to the colors of nature. The greens, browns, blues. No real favorite, just love color.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute table runner, with a long run through the winter season!!! Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. (I don't have your return address to respond directly.) Ten years as a IBA?! I didn't know the program has been in place that long!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color is burgundy. Love your winter table runner.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beauty!! Love all the snow flakes. Congrats on a 10 year run - that is a lot of patterns and quilt!! impressive!
ReplyDeletePurple is one of my favorite colors. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThat’s a terrific table runner. It will look great on the table in January. Favorite color. Most any color sets my creative juices flowing. But for now I’m saying oranges — I hardly have any and I’d love to get more so I can use a pop of orange in my quilts!
ReplyDeleteYour runner is just perfect for winter! If I have a favourite colour I guess I will pick blue. But really, I'm a quilter and I love colour!
ReplyDeleteI love all the colors -- but yellow is special. Thanks for the giveaway. Your runner will brighten a winter day. Congratulations, too, on your decade as an ambassador. Enjoy your "retirement"!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful runner. Love the indigo blue colour and with the starts, it's perfect for winter!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite colors are pink and red--depending on my mood, I guess. But I don't really have a "favorite". My surprise love is orange--after a lifetime of thinking I hated it, now I am crazy about pairing it with everything--blues, plums, pinks, greens. Color is so much fun! etalmage@earthlink.net
ReplyDeleteI tend toward blues and turquoise. Congrats on your run with IB. I hope your retirement is full of joy and lots of sewing.
ReplyDeleteGood job.
ReplyDeleteYour table runner is beautiful, Pamela! I'm sorry to hear you won't be returning but understand totally. Enjoy your new adventure!
