Project Quilting 12.2

Well, I was so busy this week that I nearly let the Project Quilting challenge slide, but when I went to bed last night I was thinking about if I could possibly come up with a small project that I could finish in the morning.  I really had no clue what I would make, possibly a pin cushion?  And what fabric should I use to fussy cut?

This morning I walked into my sewing room, turned on the heat and looked right at the fabric I am using for the Sewcialites Quilt Along and saw the letter print and knew what I would use!  I was still thinking a little pincushion at this point, so started to do a quilt as you go, log cabin style with my fussy cut P.
I started out with a strip from the project I was working on yesterday (my February Challenge for Island Batik), then remembered a whole pile of little strips I had left from a project last year.  They were so pretty I hated to throw them out, but had no plan for them - and they were the perfect color!  So I continued to add strips all around, quilt as you go style on batting.

Super cute!  I had four quarter square triangles that were mis-cuts from the February Challenge, so I sewed them together to make a back.

I sewed them right sides together around all sides, then clipped the corners.  At this point I did a pivot and decided to make it into a coaster since I didn't have anything to fill my pincushion with!  After turning I pushed out the corners, then edge stitched all the way around, and around the P square in the center.  Finished!
So cute, all from scraps and will be nice to use under my mug!

Love all these colors!  I used Just My Type from Tamarinis for the center, Citrus Sun for the first row and the final two rows are River Valley.  All these collections are from Island Batik, and don't they play well together?  I love mixing and matching fabric from different collections!

My little quilt finishes at 4 inches square and was made by me in my Coos Bay, OR home!

Thanks to Kim at Persimmon Dreams and Trish at Quilt Chicken for another great challenge!
