What can you do when you sweet husband makes a special request for you to make a baby quilt for a coworker? This person works on a horse ranch and his wife is going to be having a baby boy soon. I remembered seeing a couple yards of a cute cowboy print in my stash, so I said "yes!" because I knew I had fabric in my stash and a plan!
All it takes to make this little quilt is thirty-six 5 inch charm squares, some 2 inch strips of a contrasting fabric for the inner border, and a fun print for the outer border to pull it all together. This is my Baby Nines pattern - you can do it scrappy like this one, or use three coordinating fabrics for the center.
I knew I wanted to pick up the red in the cowboy print and use that for an inner border. I dug through my stash of 5 inch squares and pulled out green, brown, blue and gold fabrics that I liked. I added four red ones for a touch of pizazz and was ready to sew it all together.
After I got the top done, I layered it with a blue backing from my closet, then quilted it in loops (like rope!) with gold thread. I bound it in the same blue I used for the backing, and voila! One baby quilt in a hurry. Baby's due by the end of the month, so I am ready with a perfect gift, and a very happy hubby. Plus I got to use a good chunk of fabric out of my overflowing stash - wins all around for everyone!
Speaking of winning - week 2 of the Log Cabin blog hop starts on Monday and there is a new giveaway for you to enter! This time you can win a stack and strip package of Kismet by Tamarinis! Here is my favorite from the collection - so hard to choose just one!

Make sure you keep up with the wonderful projects by the Island Batik Ambassadors, lots more giveaways and great projects to drool over! I'm still working on mine, but it's not until the last week, so I'll be ready - I hope! At least I won't have to make any more baby quilts in a hurry :) If you missed any from last week, read Island Batik's week one recap post. I can't wait to see the quilts coming up this week!

What a beautiful baby quilt. I try to figure out how you did it. I think you joined the squares and cut them once more before joining again. I have to try it. Thank you.
I forgot to tell you that I love all the green Kismet fabrics.
I just love it when I have fabric just waiting for that special occasion. Love how your coordinated everything. They will love it!
Fast quilts are perfect for those kind of requests; how great you had the appropriate fabric on hand!
Oh, those fabrics are all so pretty that picking a favorite is an impossible task! I am going to say 821904455 -- probably because I don't have much purple in my stash. Your baby quilt is cute. Love the border fabric.
