Project Quilting 10:1 - Hope Springs Eternal

(For this challenge I used fabrics provided by Island Batik, a GO! Cutter provided by AccuQuilt and batting provided by Hobbs batting)

I loved the theme of the challenge given for the start of this season of Project Quilting - Hope Springs Eternal.  I am very much a positive thinker, and I knew it was going to be enjoyable to think about this concept and come up with a quilt idea to make.  In fact, I found so many wonderful quotations about hope that I think I could make a whole series of quilts!  I chose this particular quotation, because I loved the color reference, and that it refers to sunsets and sunrises, which are some of my favorite things to enjoy.

The sky takes on shades of orange during sunrise and sunset, the colour that gives you hope that the sun will set only to rise again.

Ram Charan

Isn't that nice?  Here's a lovely sunset to enjoy before I get to the quilting part of this post!

So, now I have a color in mind to use.  Now what shall I make?  The recent arrival of an AccuQuilt Go! cutting machine and a tutorial for the Swoon block by Beaquilter made it a pretty easy decision, I've always loved this block, and really wanted an excuse to play with the new cutter, so I dug into my stash and found some lovely orange and yellow Island batik fabrics that I had left from previous projects.

This is my first project made using the Go! and I have to say I am very impressed at how easy it is to use and how well my block came together.  No trimming of corners on the triangles, so I felt like I really saved time both sewing and cutting!

I was so impressed with how well my flying geese blocks came out.  That is, until I realized that I had sewn the wrong color triangles to the background.  Oh my.  I did quite a bit of ripping on this block - I guess I wasn't paying very good attention as I was sewing.  But I kept hoping that I would be able to finish tonight!

I finally got everything sewn together correctly, and the pressing, basting, quilting and binding were quickly finished with no further setbacks!

So pretty!  I don't normally use a lot of orange, but I really do love it in this quilt.
I did some small meandering on the background, curved lines on the yellow, and matchstick quilting in the orange.
The backing is the same soft yellow as the background of the front.

This little quilt measures 16 x 16.  I used Island Batik fabrics for the top and the back, quilted it with Aurifil thread, and used Hobbs heirloom cotton batting.

Made by me in Coos Bay, OR.

Don't forget, this year I am one of the sponsors, so you can win patterns from me!  I hope you will join in some of the challenges - it really is a lot of fun.  And make sure to go and see the finished projects as well - the creativity of the participants is awesome!
