K-3 and K-4 of Crazy Jane project

I spent my day at a workshop taught by Janet Fogg today, so I was planning on having that to blog about, but we didn't get as far as doing any stitching! (hopefully tomorrow, though my design might need more work before I can actually get to the fun part!)

So I decided to work a bit on my Dear (Crazy) Jane project. This is Block K-3. Easy peasy - just sew 1 inch strips and squares around and around until you have your block. I actually cut a couple extra strips, then realized that all I needed was the white border. Oh well. At least I didn't sew them on before I realized it!
Pretty nice! Note the messy strings. I'm not a good trimmer when I sew. I really need to get my thread trimmer function fixed so that I won't have so many sloppy untrimmed threads hanging off my blocks! Either that or learn to trim them by hand.
This one is K-4. It was a little intimidating, being that it was triangles on point, but I felt up for a small challenge tonight. I measured out the triangles and cut them. (of course, in my true distracted fashion I cut them in reverse of what I needed. Sure hope I don't use up all my white on these cutting errors!
I sewed the four three triangle side units together, then sewed them to the sides of the center square. I then trimmed up the corners and added the larger corner triangles. The block is a little wonky, but I think it will be fine once it's sewn to the sashing. The bias edges seem throw it off a bit.

Later this week I will count up my blocks and see where I am at in the project. I really want to get the top finished by June, so I have the summer to get it quilted. I am determined that this one will debut at the quilt show next September. I'm hoping that 4 blocks a week will get the job done, but am willing to step it up if I have to!

Tomorrow, more about my workshop weekend, and maybe some pictures if I remember to take some!

Your blocks are cute! I've admired that Jane book at Barnes and Noble. It's neat to make the same pattern that someone else made all those years ago.

Are you making a wall or bed quilt?

Looks like you're having too much fun with this project. Blocks look great!

It is very much fun - some of the more difficult blocks can make you tear your hair out, though!

Oh, and I think the quilt will hang on my wall - too much work in it to have it on the bed, but I could change my mind in the end.
